11月28日 Night and Day of Terror in MumbaiThey landed in a boat from Pakistan to launch the biggest terror attack the civilised world has ever seen.Their mission: to destroy the nerve centre of the financial capital of the country. Their target: Mumbai, India.
The events over the last 40 hours in Mumbai, have been horrific, to say the least. Apparently, a boat from Pakistan. simply entered our territory, and laid anchor in Mumbai. Over the next few hours, the fate of an entire city would be changed forever. These well prepared and ill-intentioned group of aliens laid ambush in the premier heritage hotels of Taj Trident and Oberoi. Having studied the layout of these sprawling structures extremely well, they managed to lay siege and attack the city with a vengeance seldom seen in real life. Guests residing in these hotels had mixed fates awaiting them. Some were rescued, some were attacked and held hostage, and yet others were shot dead. Foreign nationals, notably British and Americans were searched out systematically and then eliminated.
An exemplary show of resilience, courage, fine-tuned training and professionalism, the NSG (National Security Guards), a sophisticated wing of the Indian Army trained in tackling terror situations, and numbering approximately 500 in all, followed the terror trail in detail. Their patience and skill paid off, and after hours of gun-fights, grenades and dangerous manouevres, they managed to flush out most of the terrorists. The graceful heritage building of Taj Palace is witness and the scene of the worst terror attack on any country in the world. It's walls and rooms are devasted by the shelling and ammunition exchange which continued for 40 hours from within it's sprawling layout.
*******************
Puzzling Questions:
1. How did the terrorists enter Indian territory in broad daylight, carrying arms and ammunition with them?
2. Where were our local police protection force and our Guards?
3. Where was the MNS Chief, Raj Thackeray (wasn't he supposed to be guarding his 'Marathi Manoos'?)
4. Why did it take so long for Commando action to be summoned?
5. Why is there no single person who is answerable to the public for an outrageous attack on the sovereignity of India?
The Aftermath
The Mumbai attacks, which had seven places under it's radar, will leave and indelible mark on people. More so on the foreign visitors who went through hours of torture and were finally killed. Several other people's bodies have been recovered and to their kith and kin we have no explanations to offer, no words of consolation. Nariman House, the other scene of ferocious terrorist attacks bears witness to several hours of horror and bloodshed. The old Rabbi and his family who were held hostage, were brought out dead a short while ago. What was their crime? Nothing. They were simply victims of circumstances.
Why Terrorism?
My appeal to all right-thinking people of the world: Terrorism must stop. Now. What kind of a world are we makiing for future generations? What happiness do terrorists get from drawing blood of innocents? Please, please pray for the souls of the departed souls in this episode of terror, as well as for the survivors who are are traumatised beyond belief.
Tomorrow will be just another day. But do remember, that danger always lurks around, and we can't ever be too careful, ever. Be alert, be careful, and do report unusual or suspicious persons immediately to the police.
We salute the Indian Commandoes!! You are the real heroes!

Updates as on November 29th '08, 10:00 p.m.- 187 dead, of which 22 are foreign nationals.
11月19日 Inspirational sites Here are some lovely sites I'd like to share with my friends....do take out time to visit at least one of them...you won't regret it!

http://www.mybodybeautiful.co.uk/Body_Image/Effects_Of_Thoughts_On_Health_And_Body.htm
There is no physician like cheerful thought for dissipating the ills of the body; there is no comforter to compare with goodwill for dispersing the shadows of grief and sorrow. To live continually in thoughts of ill-will, cynicism, suspicion, and envy, is to be confined in a self-made prison hole. But to think well of all, to be cheerful with all, to patiently learn to find the good in all--such unselfish thoughts are the very portals of heaven; and to dwell day by day in thoughts of peace toward every creature will bring abounding peace to their possessor. http://www.liveyourquest.com/1-E_pensees.html#inspiration Check out this site for meaningful quotes and deep thinking. http://www.wikihow.com/Feel-Beautiful For people who are feeling low in self esteem and lack motivation. http://bibleprobe.com/naturescreamsgod.htm A beautiful site that shows us God's creations in all it's glory, wonder and awe. ************************************************************** Thanks....hope you enjoyed viewing them as much as I did!
11月16日 Tis the season of the Snivels and Sniffs, Coughs and... Winter was a season that somehow never agreed with me. In my college days, when others would relish the thought of the winter season approaching, I'd pretend to be joining in their delight, but secretly harboured dread in my heart at the thought of the cold days ahead. Of course, a North Indian winter does have it's delights....basking in the afternoon sun, cracking roasted peanuts and popping them into your mouth with the speed of an Olympiad, or, alternately, peeling delightfully sweet and juicy oranges and passing them around to share with the company of the moment....family or friends. Then there were the winter delights of having seemingly endless energy for walks around market places, bonding with friends in their warm houses or around a bonfire. I don't discount any of these joys, ever.
However, since we don't have any of the amenities of central heating or consistent electricity supply through the year, winter also meant a season of chills, going to sleep under piles of blankets and yet taking forever to really warm up. I'd also land up with the most unpleasant chillblains on my toes which would initially itch like crazy, and ultimately end up as angry red sores. However hard I tried to warm the tip of my nose (which made "Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer" a character I'd fully empathise with), no amount of rubbing and cupping with my hands would succeed in defrosting it.
Winter coughs and colds are back again....I now nurse an entire family suffering from this, including myself. Visits to doctors, popping in antibiotics, nasal drops, home remedies of honey-ginger-lemon tea, gargling.....I have covered the entire gamut of Things-to-Do for combating a serious cold attack. Thanks to my visits to the hill station region of Ooty, I am a proud owner of a range of natural oils....and I find that Eucalyptus Oil is an excellent remedy for blocked nose ways. Today my dinner menu consisted of steaming stews, soups and the like. I can't help sounding like a Matron, but keeping an entire family up and running is a job by itself. If any of you have any cold-combating remedies, you are most welcome to share them with me! 11月6日 Obama, and the US Presidential Elections. The world watched the entire drama of the US Presidential Elections unfolding bit by bit, for months together. Indeed, it was as if the elections would drag on and on without an end. Over the last 24 hours or so, on 5th November 2008, it was "President" Barack Obama who was finally declared as the winner to the post of President of the United States of America. We wish him, and his countrymen the very best, and look forward to ushering in a new world order.
EXCERPTS OF THIS NEWS FROM YAHOO NEWS:
World leaders hailed Barack Obama's triumph in the US presidential election as the dawn of a new era and called for the global superpower to change the way it does business.
As Obama's supporters celebrated around the world, a national holiday was declared in Kenya -- where his father was born -- and in Sierra Leone, six newborn babies were even named after the president-elect.But within hours of Obama's victory speech, Russia announced Wednesday it would be aiming short-range missiles at the US missile shield in Europe, a sharp reminder of the challenges awaiting the first black US president. But nothing could stop the wave of optimism that spread out from the United States after Obama's triumph over Republican rival John McCain made him the first African-American to win the White House. South Africa's iconic first black leader Nelson Mandela wrote in a message to Obama: "Your victory has demonstrated that no person anywhere in the world should not dare to dream of wanting to change the world for a better place. "We wish you strength and fortitude in the challenging days and years that lie ahead," he added. Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki declared a national holiday on Thursday to mark the victory of Obama, whose late father was from Kenya. "This is a momentous day not only in the history of the United States of America, but also for us in Kenya," he said. Pope Benedict XVI sent a telegram of congratulations to Obama to hail the "historic occasion." French President Nicolas Sarkozy extended his "warmest congratulations" to the 47-year-old Democratic senator. "By choosing you, the American people have chosen change, openness and optimism," added Sarkozy. British Prime Minister Gordon Brown welcomed the victory as a historic moment. Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd referred to US civil right leader Martin Luther King's landmark "I have a dream" speech for equality 45 years ago. "Today what America has done is turn that dream into a reality," he said. World leaders vowed to work with the man elected to succeed US President George W. Bush. "In a new historical era, I look forward to ... taking our bilateral relationship of constructive cooperation to a new level," China's President Hu Jintao said in a written message. European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso said in a statement: "This is a time for a renewed commitment between Europe and the United States of America." Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso also pledged to work with Obama to strengthen relations, while Indian Premier Manmohan Singh called it an "extraordinary" victory. Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, who was himself elected president in March, called for "constructive dialogue" in a message to Obama. Earlier, however, in his first state-of-the-nation address, he announced that short-range Iskander missiles would be based in the western territory of Kaliningrad to "neutralise" US missile defence plans. With wars in Iraq and Afghanistan heading White House priorities abroad, there were also calls to rethink the US "war on terror" launched by Bush after the September 11, 2001 attacks. The "'war on terror' cannot be fought in Afghan villages. ... Afghanistan is the victim of terrorism," Afghan President Hamid Karzai said. In Iraq, Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari said Obama's election would not lead to a quick US disengagement from the war-torn country. "We don't think there will be change in policy overnight. There won't be quick disengagement here. A great deal is at stake here," Zebari told AFP. Israel's outgoing Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said he was certain US-Israeli ties would strengthen under Obama. "Israeli-US relations are a special relationship based on values and common interest, with tight cooperation," he said in a statement. Jordan's King Abdullah II, a key US ally in the troubled Middle East, sent Obama a cable saying he looked forward to cooperation with Washington to "resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in line with a two-state solution." After eight years of tense relations with the Bush administration, Washington's archfoes called for a new era of relations under Obama, who has pledged to hold direct talks with US enemies. Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki, whose country is in a standoff with the West over its nuclear program, said the result showed that Americans wanted "basic changes in US foreign and domestic policy." "We hope the new US government can fulfill its people's demand to distance itself from the present statesmen's wrong approaches," he said, the official IRNA news agency reported. Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, a vociferous critic of the Bush administration, called for new relations "between our countries and with our region, on a basis of respect of sovereignty, equality and true cooperation." Cuba's Foreign Investment Minister Marta Lomas expressed hope that Obama would ease the four-decade-old embargo on the communist state. "If Obama takes some action to ease the embargo, it would be welcomed and of course it would be of help, but we're prepared for conditions to remain the same," she said. In India, we hope that Obama's regime fosters overall economic growth, peace and stabilty. 11月4日 Visit to Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary, Srirangapatam. What better way is there to spend a luxurious Diwal weekend (which comprised of 5 whole days, including the weekend!), than fitting in a quick getaway out of town, and being close to nature? Ranganthittu Bird Sanctuary is located in Srirangapatam, near Mysore. It is often given a miss as tourists generally run out of time after visiting the Mysore palaces, temples and the historical spots of Srirangapatam. Determined not to let such a beautiful place go unexplored, we kept one whole day exclusively for this nature park. Our efforts did not go unrewarded. The beautiful green landscape around us was refreshing. The thick clusters of bamboo undergrowth, and the tall trees, gave a cool, soothing touch to the tired soul. The boat ride is the one to go for really, if one is interested. We hired a big boat, and opted for a one hour ride, in order to absorb our environment to the maximum. Thereafter, our eyes did not have time to idle, for we passed islands inhabited with wonderful water birds and their nesting places. I took out my notebook and jotted down a list of the exotic species I saw. On the islands, trees were filled with nests and birds. Some swooped into the water to dive for fish. Most stayed guard over their nests. On a rockery not far away, were the offspring of these very same birds, aged not more than 3 months. We spotted brilliantly coloured Kingfishers, cleverly camouflaged Stoneflower birds, Brahmani Kites, Siberian migratory birds, and wild geese. Here is the exact list of birds I sighted:
The highlight of the trip was when our boat crossed lazy crocodiles passing by us. While they swim, a crocodiles eyes and snout are the only things visible on the surface of the water. Some huge specimens were basking on rocks with their large mouths open, waiting for any kind of prey to get fooled by their stillness and ability to appear as part of the rock. Their gleaming teeth and powerful tail were a sight to behold, and of course, unnerving. One swish of their tail, and these powerful beasts can give the word ‘terror’ a whole new meaning. I had never come this close to a crocodile in natural surroundings. We returned happy and satisfied. Our guide informed us that the best season to visit this park was between January and July, where more migratory birds are to be seen. Naturally, I will return here again….the experience was so marvelous!
